Chris Hounsell - DirectorI specialise in helping organisations strengthen their management capacity to deliver effective services primarily in learning and support for young people. I also support the development of small businesses within the local community.
About ChrisI have hands-on operational management and strategic leadership experience gained through working in the education, 'not for profit', public and independent sectors. As a member of the Governing Body of Norton Radstock College(http://www.nortcoll.ac.uk) I remain closely engaged in the planning and delivery of education and learning, skills and training. Previously as an Executive Manager of the Connexions Service in West of England, and working in partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Local Authority, I led multi-disciplinary staff teams through programme development and rapid change. At the same time my team successfully delivered on the 2010 Local Area Agreement (LAA) Target for reducing the number of young people aged 16 to 18 who are Not In Education, Employment or Training (NEET). I thrive on new challenges. I was seconded from a Secondary School Assistant Headteacher post for one academic year to work as New Deal Project Manager with Lloyds TSB through an organisation called HTI (http://www.hti.org.uk). Later, while working for Connexions, I took on responsibility as Head of Youth Service, successfully taking the Service through major organisational change and an Ofsted Inspection. The Service was recognised by Ofsted as 'Satisfactory' with many aspects of the work with young people being identified as 'Good' and some of it 'Outstanding' Being the owner of my own company made me aware of the key role of small businesses in the local and national economy. This has led me to support the local Council in the development of a small business network and directory of services.I am a consultant member of the Regional Youth Work Unit at Learning South West. I am married with two adult children. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, often combining activities with my love of good food. A recent holiday in the vineyards of Alsace has added a new dimension to my appreciation of wine. It has also resulted in me giving more time to activities such as walking, aquafit and the gym although my preference on a quiet day is to spend time with a good book or good friends.
